You’re at the right place, I’ve been with this group since the start and have met many amazing women so far. Aida does a tremendous job at connecting like-minded women.

Aída has created something so special for the women in Madrid. With her genuine interest and care for others’ wellbeing, I believe that so many of us have been blessed to much more easily find our footings in a new city we now call home. The support and love shared among this community has been amazing to witness and to be a part of! I am excited for what is ahead for this amazing and diverse group of compassionate ladies.

Aída is an amazingly kind and generous human who has helped me above and beyond. She’s utterly professional, yet has a warm and gentle manner that makes you feel seen and welcome, and New(ish) is a wonderful community to be part of, an open, welcoming and safe space.

The amount of information shared here is incredible — whether it’s practical advice, recommendations, or just someone saying “I’ve been through that too.” So many times I’ve searched the group and found exactly what I needed. It really does feel like a treasure chest of lived experience.
But what truly makes this community special is Aida. There’s something very genuine about the way she shows up. She isn’t just running a WhatsApp group — she’s holding space for women to feel supported, connected, and seen. You can sense that she cares deeply, and that makes all the difference. Creating something like this takes time and heart, and she gives both so generously.

The New(ish) community has been an invaluable part of my expat experience in Madrid. It offers far more than social connection—it provides meaningful community, trusted resources, and thoughtful programming that supports women navigating life abroad.
Through New(ish), I’ve built genuine friendships with accomplished, welcoming women from across the city. The newsletters, events, and speaker sessions consistently provide relevant, high-quality content, while the group chats offer reliable day-to-day support.

I’m so glad I found this group after moving to Madrid. From the beginning it felt open, welcoming, and genuinely supportive. Moving somewhere new can be a lot, but this community has made it so much easier.
The monthly meetups and the day-to-day support on WhatsApp are a fantastic mix of real connection and virtual help. I’ve had advice on everything from finding a new hairdresser to navigating public services, as well as plenty of coffee meetups along the way.
It’s such a friendly and encouraging group, and it was really the starting point for building a social life and network here for me.

Who’s behind it
Hi! I’m Aída Ramos, a freelance translator. I’m Spanish and not exactly “new” (been living in Madrid for quite a while now!), but I have lived abroad in different countries (Sweden, Ireland, Luxembourg, India) and remember exactly what it felt like to live away from home.
Exciting, daunting, amazing… and yes, sometimes a little overwhelming too, right?
Over the years, one word kept coming up again and again in conversations with my clients: connection. It’s something we all long for at different moments in life, and funnily enough, the wiser (I won’t say older!) we get, the harder it can feel to find.
At some point, I realised I could actually do something about it, so I did. I put the idea out there and suggested meeting for a simple coffee… and 25 people showed up.
We talked, we laughed, we connected, and we kept meeting month after month.
Those people told their friends, who in turn told their friends… and well, the rest is history 😉

FAQs
Of course, that is actually the case for many of us… and precisely what makes the community richer. Being new in Madrid can be challenging and lonely but the same can be true when you’ve been here for years but many of your friends are moving back home or your own circumstances have changed (because you moved to a different neighbourhood, started a new job, had a baby, are newly single, whatever). That’s exactly what the (ish) stands for, everybody’s welcome!
The whole idea behind it is to be supportive and respectful to one another and share advice and a laugh. It’s also a safe space and a politics-free zone, and we make a point of keeping it that way.
What I would encourage you to do is have a look at the testimonials and see what other people think of the community. If you like the sound of it but still have questions, you can always reach out privately and, of course, join an event to check it out for yourself.
Well, there is no long-term contract here, so if within two weeks into your membership you decide it’s not for you, you can get your money back! We’ll certainly be sorry to see you go, but we’ll totally understand, no hard feelings.
